Unveiling the Genome India Project: Mapping the Human Genetic Landscape

India being a land of diverse cultures with over 4600 population groups, shares a varied genetic makeup. This gave rise to the need to create a ‘human reference genome’ for the Indian population. The Genome India Project, initiated in 2020 by the Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, is dedicated to sequence the human genome in the country.
